How to choose QSFP28 optics
- QSFP28 carries 100 Gb/s as four 25G lanes
- SR4 uses MPO multimode trunks; LR4 and CWDM4 use duplex single-mode with LC
- DR and FR single-lambda optics use one wavelength and suit newer 100G/400G designs
- Breakout cables split one 100G port into four 25G links
Frequently asked questions
Should I choose CWDM4, LR4 or FR for 100G single-mode?
LR4 is the IEEE 10 km option; CWDM4 targets about 2 km in data centres; FR uses a single wavelength for 2 km. Match both ends of the link.
