Description

A 100G bidirectional multimode QSFP28 module that uses a single duplex LC fibre pair. Two wavelengths, 855 and 908 nm, each carry 50G, and they travel in opposite directions on each fibre. This allows existing duplex multimode cabling, including OM3 and OM4 plant installed for 10G or 40G BiDi, to be reused for 100G. Cisco lists 70 m on OM3, 100 m on OM4 and 150 m on OM5. Maximum power is 3.9 W, and the operating range is 10 to 60 degC, narrower than the standard commercial range. A module is needed at both ends, and the host port must support the PAM4 line signalling and the associated forward error correction mode. Typical use is a leaf-to-spine upgrade in a data centre without recabling. Check host support in the Cisco optics compatibility matrix.
