Description
A 40 Gigabit QSFP+ transceiver that multiplexes four wavelengths, starting at 1271 nm, onto a single pair of single-mode fibres. Maximum distance is 10 km, so it serves campus backbones, links between buildings and metro hand-offs. Per-lane output ranges from -7 to +2.3 dBm and the receiver covers -13.7 to +2.3 dBm. Digital optical monitoring is supported. The module draws about 3.5 W and operates from 0 to 70 degrees C. Because it uses wavelength multiplexing rather than parallel fibres, a normal duplex LC patch cord is enough. It cannot be split into four 10G links, since the lanes are combined on the optical side. The far end must use another 40GBASE-LR4 module. Platform support depends on the QSFP+ or QSFP28 port, and the vendor guide lists some models where the port needs a specific speed mode first.
