The QSFP-H40G-CU1M is a passive copper cable for 40 Gigabit Ethernet, 1 m long, with a QSFP+ connector on each end. Typical placement is a top-of-rack switch connecting to the server directly beneath it, with almost no excess cable to tuck away. It connects two QSFP+ ports directly, contains no active electronics and gives no digital diagnostics. Keep a spare of the same length on the shelf if the link is critical, as there is no field repair for a moulded cable. Cisco's 40GBASE QSFP data sheet groups it with the 40GBASE-CR4 copper cables, which carry four 10G lanes in each direction. Both connector ends use the same housing style, so the cable has no preferred direction when installed. The cable is wider and stiffer than a 10G twinax, so allow a gentle bend radius when dressing it. Store unused lengths coiled loosely in their bag so the jacket and strain reliefs keep their shape. Laying the cable in before the equipment is fully racked leaves the final connection for last and saves rework.
