The QSFP-4X10G-AC7M is an active breakout copper cable, 7 m long. Cisco's 40GBASE QSFP data sheet lists it with an active design, adding signal conditioning so copper can run beyond the 5 m passive breakout limit. As a pre-terminated unit, it removes the need to match, stock or clean separate pluggable modules at either end. It suits a fan-out from a 40G switch port to servers placed a few cabinets away. The rate is fixed by the cable type, so the port at each end must be set for the matching speed. One end is a 40G QSFP+ connector and the other splits into four SFP+ connectors for 10 Gigabit Ethernet lanes. It suits end-of-row and adjacent-rack layouts where the route is longer than the straight-line distance between the two ports. Keep a spare of the same length on the shelf if the link is critical, as there is no field repair for a moulded cable. Label both ends at installation, since cables of different lengths look identical in a dense rack.
