The QSFP-4SFP10G-CU5M is a passive breakout copper cable, 5 m long. Laying the cable in before the equipment is fully racked leaves the final connection for last and saves rework. Cisco's 40GBASE QSFP data sheet lists it as a copper breakout joining a 40G port to four 10G SFP+ ports. The host port must be set to split into four 10G interfaces, and the cable has no active parts. It is used where a 40G port fans out to several servers, saving ports and optics at the aggregation point. Because it is built to a set length, stock planning is by length, so a rack plan listing each link helps ordering. Route it clear of power cords and fan exhaust where possible, to keep the cable run tidy and serviceable. Plan the route before ordering, because a fixed-length cable cannot be shortened or extended later. The length gives some freedom in equipment placement, so the switch need not sit in the exact middle of the rack.
