Cisco's 40GBASE QSFP data sheet lists it as a copper breakout joining a 40G port to four 10G SFP+ ports. Store unused lengths coiled loosely in their bag so the jacket and strain reliefs keep their shape. Route it clear of power cords and fan exhaust where possible, to keep the cable run tidy and serviceable. The host port must be set to split into four 10G interfaces, and the cable has no active parts. Both connector ends use the same housing style, so the cable has no preferred direction when installed.
