The QSFP-4SFP10G-CU3M is a passive breakout copper cable, 3 m long. Cisco's 40GBASE QSFP data sheet lists it as a copper breakout joining a 40G port to four 10G SFP+ ports. Seat each plug until it latches, then give the cable a gentle tug to confirm the pull-tab latch has engaged. It is used where a 40G port fans out to several servers, saving ports and optics at the aggregation point. It spans a full rack and typically the adjacent rack as well, with room for a tidy loop in the vertical cable manager. One end is a 40G QSFP+ connector, and the other splits into four SFP+ connectors, each carrying one 10 Gigabit Ethernet lane. The rate is fixed by the cable type, so the port at each end must be set for the matching speed. As a pre-terminated unit, it removes the need to match, stock or clean separate pluggable modules at either end. Both ends are permanently attached, so nothing needs cleaning, and the whole cable is replaced if either end is damaged.
