The QSFP-4SFP10G-CU2M is a passive breakout copper cable, 2 m long. It is used where a 40G port fans out to several servers, saving ports and optics at the aggregation point. The host port must be set to split into four 10G interfaces, and the cable has no active parts. Both ends are permanently attached, so nothing needs cleaning, and the whole cable is replaced if either end is damaged. Check the host platform's supported-cable list before deploying, as support varies by switch family and software release. Neighbouring cabinets in a row are the usual target, with the switch in one rack and its connected hosts in that one or the next. As a pre-terminated unit, it removes the need to match, stock or clean separate pluggable modules at either end. Cisco's 40GBASE QSFP data sheet lists it as a copper breakout joining a 40G port to four 10G SFP+ ports. Laying the cable in before the equipment is fully racked leaves the final connection for last and saves rework.
