Description
A 40 gigabit QSFP+ module for short multimode links. It sends four parallel 10G lanes at 850 nm over a 12-fibre MPO/MTP connection, so it needs a parallel multimode trunk rather than a duplex patch cord. Cisco lists reach as 30 m on OM2, 100 m on OM3 and 150 m on OM4 or OM5. Of the SR4 modules in this family it is the version Cisco documents for 4x10G breakout use, where one 40G port is split into four 10G links through a suitable MPO-to-LC fan-out. Typical placements are server-to-top-of-rack runs and leaf-to-spine links inside one data hall, where fibre is already installed as MPO trunks.
