Description
This is the IEEE-aligned variant of the 40G short-reach multimode QSFP+ module. Like its sibling it uses four 850 nm lanes and an MPO-12 connector, but it is specified against the standard 40GBASE-SR4 optical limits and is rated for 100 m on OM3 and 150 m on OM4 or OM5, with no OM2 figure. Cisco notes that this version does not support 4x10G breakout cabling, and that it does not support FCoE; for those uses the plain SR4 or the CSR4 is the module to choose. It suits straightforward 40G point-to-point links between two QSFP+ ports, such as aggregation uplinks in a data centre where MPO trunk cabling exists. Power draw is up to 1.5 W, operating temperature is 0 to 70 degC, and the pull tab is beige. Confirm host support in the Cisco optics compatibility matrix.
Typical uses
- Server and storage links to a top-of-rack switch
- Switch-to-switch links inside one data hall or comms room
- Building risers that already have OM3/OM4 multimode fibre
Before you order
- Confirm your switch or router model and software release support the QSFP-40G-SR4-S=
- Use OM3 or OM4 multimode patch cords; reach drops sharply on OM1/OM2
- Parallel optics need MPO/MTP trunk or breakout cabling with the right polarity
- Prices exclude import duties and taxes in your country (DAP)
