Description
A bidirectional 40G QSFP+ module that runs over a single duplex pair of multimode fibre with LC connectors, instead of the twelve-fibre MPO cabling used by SR4 optics. Two wavelengths in the 832 to 918 nm range share each fibre, one per direction, with each direction carrying 20G. The main benefit is re-use: an existing 10G duplex multimode plant can carry 40G without a re-cabling project. Cisco lists reach as 30 m on OM2, 100 m on OM3 and 150 m on OM4 or OM5. Maximum power is 3.5 W, higher than the parallel SR4 modules, and the operating range is stated as 10 to 70 degC with a gray pull tab. Both ends of a link need BiDi modules. Typical use is upgrading leaf-to-spine or aggregation links in an existing data centre. Check platform support in the Cisco compatibility matrix.
