Description
A 40G QSFP+ long-reach module for duplex single-mode fibre. Four lanes at 1271, 1291, 1311 and 1331 nm are multiplexed inside the module onto one fibre pair, giving a rated reach of 10 km over G.652 fibre with LC connectors. This version also supports the OTU3 rate used when 40G is carried inside optical transport equipment, which the lower-cost LR4-S version does not advertise. Typical uses are links between buildings on a campus, between data halls, or to a nearby metro facility, where multimode optics cannot reach. The datasheet gives a maximum power of 3.5 W, a 0 to 70 degC commercial temperature range and a blue pull tab. Because the optics are single-mode, patch cords must be single-mode as well, and short links may need an optical attenuator. Check host and release support in the Cisco compatibility matrix.
