Description
An extended-reach 40G QSFP+ module for metro and regional links of up to 40 km on standard G.652 single-mode fibre. The four lanes sit on the 1271, 1291, 1311 and 1331 nm grid and are combined inside the module, so only a duplex LC fibre pair is needed. Cisco also lists OTU3 rate support, which allows the module to be used on links where the 40G signal is framed for optical transport. Applications include connecting data centres in neighbouring towns, carrier handoffs and long campus rings that exceed the 10 km of LR4 optics. The module is rated for a maximum of 3.5 W at 0 to 70 degC and has a red pull tab. Over short fibre spans the receiver may overload, so check the optical budget and add attenuation where needed.
