A part number identifies a product; the listing’s condition identifies what is offered. Check both before ordering. Available conditions depend on actual listings and stock, rather than on the presence of a category page.

Compare the conditions

Condition What to check
New Factory-sealed packaging, exact part number and included accessories
Refurbished Previous use, cosmetic condition, inspection results, reset status and accessories
Open box Opened packaging, use history, contents and cosmetic condition

New hardware has 7-day seller dead-on-arrival cover. Refurbished and open-box seller warranty periods are stated per listing; the recorded defaults are 12 and 3 months respectively. Check the listing and accepted quote for the actual period and read Returns and warranty for the claim process.

No manufacturer warranty, host-device coverage or support entitlement is promised by the condition label. Confirm any required eligibility separately before purchase.

Ask for evidence on the unit

For previously owned equipment, ask for inspection results, the reset procedure and confirmation that prior customer data and account associations have been removed. These are questions to resolve for the offered unit, rather than assumptions based on the word “refurbished”. Testing and reset procedures: [CONFIRM owner-approved process before making a store-wide promise].

Ask which rails, mounts, power supplies, cables, carriers and other accessories are included. Check airflow, power input and platform/software compatibility against your installation. For memory and drives, see Server memory and drives.

Check licences separately

Record the management platform, account requirements, software features and required subscription term. Ask for written confirmation of any transfer or registration requirements for the exact equipment and end user. See Licences and support contracts.

Decide around the deployment

For a spare, match the existing installation and required software. For a new deployment, confirm the intended service life and required features. Compare total costs including missing accessories, shipping and any separately confirmed services. A lower hardware price alone does not establish the better fit.

The listing code uses the part number for new equipment, with -REF for refurbished and -OB for open box. Keep the condition on your purchase request so that a quote for one condition is not mistaken for another.
