Description

A copper SFP that turns a fibre-style SFP slot into a 1000BASE-T Ethernet port with an RJ-45 jack. It is handy when a switch has spare SFP cages but the device to be connected, such as a server or an older access switch, only offers a twisted-pair port. Standard Cat 5 or better unshielded cable works up to 100 m. It carries no optics, so there is no wavelength or fibre type to consider. The GLC-T is a SFP form-factor part for gigabit SFP ports found on access switches, routers and industrial Ethernet gear. It runs over copper and is specified for the commercial temperature range of 0 to 70 degrees Celsius. Its listed reach is 100 m on Cat 5 or better. Because it is a copper module, there is no laser safety concern and no optical budget to calculate; cable quality and length are the only link limits.
