Description

A 1000BASE-LX SFP for single-mode fibre, listed by Juniper for EX series switches and many routing, security and wireless-adjacent platforms. It carries Gigabit Ethernet between buildings on a campus, or between an access closet and a distribution room that is too far for short-wave optics. The laser transmits in the 1270 to 1355 nm window and reaches 10 km on standard single-mode fibre. Juniper also lists 550 m over multimode fibre. Operating range is -5 to 70 degrees C. Cabling for EX-SFP-1GE-LX: use a duplex single-mode (OS2) patch cable with LC connectors. The headline reach is 10 km on SMF · 550 m on MMF (mode-conditioning), so measure the installed link loss before ordering. The host needs a free SFP cage that runs at 1G; Juniper's tool names EX4400, EX4300, EX4100 among the platforms where this code is supported, and the model page also gives the minimum software release for each platform. Clean the connectors before insertion and keep dust caps on unused ports.

Typical uses

  • Metro and long-haul links between sites
  • Service-provider aggregation over dark fibre
  • Long campus spans beyond the 10 km class

Before you order

  1. Confirm your switch or router model and software release support the EX-SFP-1GE-LX
  2. Use single-mode (OS2) fibre and check the link budget for the full span
  3. On short test links an attenuator may be needed to avoid overloading the receiver
  4. Prices exclude import duties and taxes in your country (DAP)
