Description
A 400G QSFP-DD module for short multimode links, using eight 50G PAM4 lanes at 850 nm over a 16-fibre MPO connector with angled (APC) polish. Cisco lists a reach of 70 m on OM3 and 100 m on OM4 over 50 micron fibre. The eight-lane layout can be split into two 200G or four 100G streams by suitable breakout cabling where the host supports it, which suits server aggregation and leaf-to-spine links within a data hall. Maximum power draw is up to 12 W, so the host cage needs adequate airflow, and the operating range is 0 to 75 degC. Because the connector is MPO-16 rather than the more common MPO-12, trunk cables and cassettes must be matched, and the APC end face means standard UPC patching is not suitable. Check host support in the Cisco optics compatibility matrix.
Typical uses
- Server and storage links to a top-of-rack switch
- Switch-to-switch links inside one data hall or comms room
- Building risers that already have OM3/OM4 multimode fibre
Before you order
- Confirm your switch or router model and software release support the QDD-400G-SR8-S=
- Use OM3 or OM4 multimode patch cords; reach drops sharply on OM1/OM2
- Parallel optics need MPO/MTP trunk or breakout cabling with the right polarity
- Prices exclude import duties and taxes in your country (DAP)
