Description
An extended-reach 10 Gigabit SFP+ module with a 1550 nm transmitter for long single-mode spans. It reaches 40 km on an engineered link whose total loss stays under 11.1 dB, or 30 km on ordinary single-mode plant, which suits metro rings, campus-to-campus fibre and remote site backhaul. Output power ranges from -4.7 to +4 dBm and the receiver covers -15.8 to -1 dBm, so a 5 dB attenuator is advised on short fibre. Digital optical monitoring is provided. It needs about 1.5 W and operates from 0 to 70 degrees C. A duplex LC single-mode pair is used, and the partner device needs a matching 10GBASE-ER module. Platform notes in the vendor guide limit use on a few models, for example ER optics are not supported in the 6100 series, and only two are allowed per J9538A module in older 5400zl chassis.
