The SFP-25G-AOC5M is a 25 Gigabit active optical cable, 5 m long, with an SFP28 connector on each end and multimode fibre between them. Both ends are permanently attached, so nothing needs cleaning, and the whole cable is replaced if either end is damaged. The optics are sealed inside the connector bodies, so installation is simply plugging in both ends. Neat hook-and-loop strapping helps keep front-to-back airflow clear around the switch faceplate. The rate is fixed by the cable type, so the port at each end must be set for the matching speed. Cisco's 25GBASE SFP28 data sheet lists it as a 25GBASE-AOC assembly and says the host may use either BASE-R or RS-FEC. The slim fibre jacket is lighter than twinax copper, which helps in crowded trays and server cabinets. Handle it by the connector bodies, keep the bend radius generous, and avoid tight ties that squeeze the jacket. The length gives some freedom in equipment placement, so the switch need not sit in the exact middle of the rack.
