The SFP-25G-AOC2M is a 25 Gigabit active optical cable, 2 m long, with an SFP28 connector on each end and multimode fibre between them. The optics are sealed inside the connector bodies, so installation is simply plugging in both ends. The slim fibre jacket is lighter than twinax copper, which helps in crowded trays and server cabinets. Neighbouring cabinets in a row are the usual target, with the switch in one rack and its connected hosts in that one or the next. Hot-swap behaviour follows the host port, and the link normally comes up once both ends are seated. Cisco's 25GBASE SFP28 data sheet lists it as a 25GBASE-AOC assembly and says the host may use either BASE-R or RS-FEC. Neat hook-and-loop strapping helps keep front-to-back airflow clear around the switch faceplate. Both connector ends use the same housing style, so the cable has no preferred direction when installed. Plan the route before ordering, because a fixed-length cable cannot be shortened or extended later.
