The SFP-10G-AOC7M is a 10 Gigabit active optical cable, 7 m long, with an SFP+ plug moulded onto each end and multimode fibre inside the jacket. The optics sit inside the connector bodies, so it behaves like a pair of short-reach transceivers joined by fibre, with no LC connectors to clean. Both connector ends use the same housing style, so the cable has no preferred direction when installed. Because it is built to a set length, stock planning is by length, so a rack plan listing each link helps ordering. Cisco's data sheet describes it as an active optical cable assembly with roughly 1 W of power. The extra length makes it practical for links between racks in a row, including paths through overhead trays or floor routing. The thin fibre is lighter than copper twinax and is not affected by electrical noise along the route. Store unused lengths coiled loosely in their bag so the jacket and strain reliefs keep their shape.
