The SFP-10G-AOC2M is a 10 Gigabit active optical cable, 2 m long, with an SFP+ plug moulded onto each end and multimode fibre inside the jacket. This length covers links within one rack, and reaches the next cabinet when the two racks stand side by side. Cisco's data sheet describes it as an active optical cable assembly with roughly 1 W of power. Keep a spare of the same length on the shelf if the link is critical, as there is no field repair for a moulded cable. Laying the cable in before the equipment is fully racked leaves the final connection for last and saves rework. As a pre-terminated unit, it removes the need to match, stock or clean separate pluggable modules at either end. The thin fibre is lighter than copper twinax and is not affected by electrical noise along the route. Route it clear of power cords and fan exhaust where possible, to keep the cable run tidy and serviceable. The optics sit inside the connector bodies, so it behaves like a pair of short-reach transceivers joined by fibre, with no LC connectors to clean.
