The SFP-10G-AOC1M is a 10 Gigabit active optical cable, 1 m long, with an SFP+ plug moulded onto each end and multimode fibre inside the jacket. The thin fibre is lighter than copper twinax and is not affected by electrical noise along the route. The optics sit inside the connector bodies, so it behaves like a pair of short-reach transceivers joined by fibre, with no LC connectors to clean. Neat hook-and-loop strapping helps keep front-to-back airflow clear around the switch faceplate. Label both ends at installation, since cables of different lengths look identical in a dense rack. It is intended for data-centre environments and has a standard commercial temperature range. Hot-swap behaviour follows the host port, and the link normally comes up once both ends are seated. Cisco's data sheet describes it as an active optical cable assembly with roughly 1 W of power. At this length it suits tight in-rack links where a longer cable would only leave a bundle of slack behind the doors.
