The SFP-10G-AOC10M is a 10 Gigabit active optical cable, 10 m long, with an SFP+ plug moulded onto each end and multimode fibre inside the jacket. Hot-swap behaviour follows the host port, and the link normally comes up once both ends are seated. Use it when equipment is a few cabinets apart and a shorter cable would be pulled tight. Plan the route before ordering, because a fixed-length cable cannot be shortened or extended later. The thin fibre is lighter than copper twinax and is not affected by electrical noise along the route. Both connector ends use the same housing style, so the cable has no preferred direction when installed. As a pre-terminated unit, it removes the need to match, stock or clean separate pluggable modules at either end. Cisco's data sheet describes it as an active optical cable assembly with roughly 1 W of power. The optics sit inside the connector bodies, so it behaves like a pair of short-reach transceivers joined by fibre, with no LC connectors to clean.
