The QSFP-H40G-AOC30M is a 40 Gigabit active optical cable, 30 m long, with a QSFP+ connector on each end and multimode fibre carrying four lanes between them. As a pre-terminated unit, it removes the need to match, stock or clean separate pluggable modules at either end. The optics are sealed into the connector bodies, so there are no MPO connectors to clean and no transceivers to match. Neat hook-and-loop strapping helps keep front-to-back airflow clear around the switch faceplate. Cisco's 40GBASE QSFP data sheet lists it among the QSFP-to-QSFP active optical cables, available from 1 m to 30 m. The fibre jacket is lighter and thinner than 40G copper and avoids the reach limits copper has at this speed. It serves links across a data hall where the two devices sit far apart and the cable path is long. Hot-swap behaviour follows the host port, and the link normally comes up once both ends are seated. Label both ends at installation, since cables of different lengths look identical in a dense rack.
