The QSFP-4X10G-AOC2M is a breakout active optical cable, 2 m long. Cisco's 40GBASE QSFP data sheet lists it as an active optical breakout cable. This length covers links within one rack, and reaches the next cabinet when the two racks stand side by side. It feeds several 10G servers or switches from one 40G port, and the host port must be set to four-way split mode. Laying the cable in before the equipment is fully racked leaves the final connection for last and saves rework. Hot-swap behaviour follows the host port, and the link normally comes up once both ends are seated. Because it is built to a set length, stock planning is by length, so a rack plan listing each link helps ordering. Plan the route before ordering, because a fixed-length cable cannot be shortened or extended later. One end has a QSFP+ connector for a 40G port, and the other divides into four SFP+ connectors, one for each 10 Gigabit Ethernet lane.
