The QSFP-4X10G-AOC10M is a breakout active optical cable, 10 m long. The extra length makes it practical for links between racks in a row, including paths through overhead trays or floor routing. Handle it by the connector bodies, keep the bend radius generous, and avoid tight ties that squeeze the jacket. Cisco's 40GBASE QSFP data sheet lists it as an active optical breakout cable. One end has a QSFP+ connector for a 40G port, and the other divides into four SFP+ connectors, one for each 10 Gigabit Ethernet lane. Multimode fibre runs inside the jacket and the optics are built into the connector bodies, so no separate transceivers are required. As a pre-terminated unit, it removes the need to match, stock or clean separate pluggable modules at either end. The rate is fixed by the cable type, so the port at each end must be set for the matching speed. Plan the route before ordering, because a fixed-length cable cannot be shortened or extended later.
